John Burke is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and one of the founding partners of Ambit Energy. He is responsible for all system software development and support and oversees Ambit’s security and infrastructure systems.
Prior to Ambit, John operated a virtual CIO practice for investors and business owners serving the financial services, telecommunications and retail energy industries. Prior to this role, John served as a Partner and Chief Operating Officer for RiverRock Systems, a telecommunication system billing provider.
During his tenure at Ambit, John led the design and development of Ambit’s back-office systems that support billing, call center interfaces, customer Internet self-care, commissions and transaction processing. Early on, John decided to build all systems in-house from scratch rather than rely on existing vendor systems to support the company’s rapid growth. Ambit’s patented systems have been referred to as “one of the premier platforms in the industry,” and have been instrumental in the company’s awards:
John has earned a variety of accolades for his accomplishments with Ambit. In 2011, the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Society of Information Managers named him IT Executive of the Year for the DFW region. In 2010, John was named one of the Information Week Top 25 CTOs of 2010.
John earned an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Rutgers University, where he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He currently lives with his wife and four children in Dallas, TX.
