We all know that education pays, and we hope that you’ll learn a few money-saving tips that will help you save as the kids head back to school, and throughout fall and winter.
- Get with the Programmable Thermostat – With the kids out of the house, you can use a programmable thermostat to set your home’s temperature at a more economical rate when nobody’s home. Or adjust it yourself if it’s an older model.
- Be Smart about Power – Use microwaves for cooking, and have kids do homework on a laptop, not a desktop. Another tip: plug appliances into a power strip and turn off the strip when it’s not in use to reduce “phantom” loads. You’ll save energy and money.
- Charge for Less – Docking stations for cell phones, MP3 players and computers are a great way to charge them. Just remember to unplug the station when you’re done. Or better yet, go solar. Solar chargers and docking stations cost more upfront, but your power is free.
- Change is Good – Remember to change your air filters. That’s a fast, easy way to save on cooling and heating bills.
Of course, these tips are the just the start. There are additional steps you can take to cut costs on gadgets, and more steps you can take around your house. With a little studying, you can be making an A+ in energy efficiency.
