Energy Tips & Information: A Clean Way to Save

Can taking a shower lower your electrical bill? It sure can. A significant amount of the average home energy bill is used for heating water. Take quick showers of five-minutes or less instead of steaming hot baths to save water and energy.

Adjusting the temperature of your water heater can also help you save. If you find yourself turning the handles of the hot and cold faucets like a radio dial, your water heater may be working harder than it needs to be. For example, if your water heater is set at 110 degrees, but you only take a shower in 90 degree water, you are wasting electricity generating unused heat. Your heater is always working to make sure that 110 degree water is available, even if you don’t use it. By turning down the main temperature gauge, you are saving your heating unit from working extra hard for nothing, and saving yourself some money at the same time.
